I started posting to the ‘nook’ with the intention of running a local arts commentry. I have drifted away from this as I don’t think I have hit the mark with content. What sort of art do ‘nookers’ get into?
I studdied art at uni and feel that I may not have yet appealed to you as the reader. Would you like more photos posted? Would you like to know about local artists?
Any help would be of benifit. At this point there is every chance I will give up the theme and go random. Not a bad option.
Thank you for your reply, this is more or less a public apology for accusing your team of censoring me. I simply needed to see if this was the case.
I have some friends who have had artwork censored and one even was accused of breaking the new anti-sedition law. These situations have made me more wary and to a certain degree paranoid.
What I said was nowhere near as politically sensitive as the work that was taken down, so I have overreacted. I am reasonably new to these online forums and did not know if I had crossed some sort of no go line. I even read your user agreement again to see if there was a clause I broke.
Anyway I have given away my tendency to overreact to the entire Nook community, ha-ha, oh well.
It seems that if you are anti-Howard the Nook admin team stops you speaking your mind. All I tried to do was to allude to Howard’s relationship with Bush being less than savory and my comment/s did not show up.
We do have decent free speech in this country, so it is a shame to have this occur.
Has this happened to any other Nook user?
Has Peter Garrett sold out or is he working the system?
2 Answers Published 1 year, 9 months ago in Making News.I was wondering what people think of former ACF president and Midnight Oil frontman is up to. Is he working the system from the inside or has he sold out for unknown reasons.
Your thoughts please!
For those fans out there it has been announced that a “mini” version of the V festival is on its way to Melbourne in early April. Details at:
http://www.vfestival.com.au/News.aspx
As a lifelong fan of the Pixies I feel obliged to spread the word, its not cheap mind you at $110 general admittance and $130 reserved seating. Oh well, I am sure this will be the last chance to see them in our own backyard.
Red Crain School Of Chinese
THIS IS A SECONDARY POST, THE FIRST FAILED TO REGISTER
Red Crane School of Chinese specializes in teaching people from all walks of life to read and speak Mandarin Chinese. Their philosophy is to have fun whilst learning. The classes are also small ensuring that the teaching staff can have equal focus on each students needs.
I took some of their beginners classes and I was shocked to find myself picking up the basics without much effort. Students at Red Crane are diverse, a class can consist of business people, traditional Chinese medicine students, Australian born Chinese who want to discover their heritage, travelers and those who simply want to learn a language.
Their rates are very competitive and you get a text book and audio CD included in your enrollment fee. Very nice!
So if you are up for a challenge this year this may be just the thing!
(The spelling of the word Crane as “Crain” is not my doing. It came with the automatic business look up feature of this site. I can’t edit it, sorry.)

Just a quick note, if I win one of these iPods I will give it away to somebody who has a greater need for it. I did not join this nook thing to win anything. I never win anything anyway so this is a good way to tempt fate and see if I can.
Oh, I will give it to somebody on this blog site. It will go to the most honest and needy reply to my announcement. Getting ahead of myself aren’t I
I am not crazy and selfless just in case you are wondering, I have an iPod already, having two would be excessive.
Art in the west and ARI’s (artist run initiative’s).
0 Comments Published 1 year, 10 months ago in Where I Live. There are artist run spaces all over Melbourne and they are the lifeblood of many young artists. These spaces are the first many early career artist’s will approach for exhibitions and because of this they show art that is experimental and on the edge. What I would like to see other than more of these opening for business is more art interested individuals visiting these spaces.
The western region of Melbourne is not generally known as a place to go to see art, but there is a small space in the heart of Footsrcay that is doing its best to get the word out. Trocadero Art Space, located at Level 1, 119 Hopkins St. This space has been working hard to showcase contemporary art and the exhibitions are as diverse as Footscray itself.
It is not surprising in the “new world order” our beloved politicians have us living in that a number of exhibitions over the past years have been highly political and one in particular made national headlines. I wont go into that but if you are interested all you need to do is google ‘Proudly unAustralian’, a work by Azlan McLennan. Enough said. Trocadero Art Space gives all work a space to be seen and does not edit or censor. This is why they work and why they are important entities within our community.
So my tip for the week is visit their website www.trocadero.cjb.net , and put them on your to do list when their exhibition program starts up again.
My next contribution will look at other ARI’s in Melbourne and review some of the shows that are coming up.
